BARTON'S DEFEAT OF DE " WET. Details of Major-General Barton's recent defeat of De Wet at Frederick stad show that 2000 Boers were engaged. After heavy fighting, many Boerr streamed from cover northwards. Shrapnel was burst freely overhead, mowing down the fugitives from three sides. Few escaped the inferno. General Sir Redvers Buller has resumed command at Aldershot. Great preparations are being nade to entertain the colonial troops in England. Visits are being arranged to the chief manufacturing centres and the arsenals. The Queen will review the the troops at Windsor, and there will be a special service at St. Paul's.
