y OCCUPATION OF PAOTING-FU. The French, German and Italian troops sacked the respective quarters they occupied at Paoting-fu. Looting of the British quarter was forbidden. MILITARY BRUTALITIES. Complaints have been made of the severity of the Germans at Pekin. By mistake, they dragged Wang, President of the Treasury, through the streets, flogged him with a rope, and broke his nose, before the error was discovered. Frequent disturbances have occured in the city, owing to similar brutalities. DESTRUCTION OF A TEMPLE. Lieut.-General Sir A. Gaslee, with a view to degrading Paoting-fu in the eyes of the Chinese, owing to the murder and mutilation of Europeans, destroyed the most venerated temple in the place; also the city gate and towers.
