The extreme respect evinced by the commanders cfthe allied troops for the susceptibility of the Chinese officials, although the latter were responsible for the murder of missionaries, deprived the Paoting-fu expedition of all value. No punishment was inflicted on the Chinese by the allies, and only a limited number of the troops marched through Paotingfu.
