The Foxton Volunteers.
Last nighfc the members desirous of joining the Volunteer Rifles met at the Victoria Hall and were duly sworn in, Mr "W. B. Rhodes, J P., acting as attesting officer. Fiftythree men were enrolled, and after the swearing-in was finished they decided that-the corps should be known as the "Foxton Volunteer Corps." The meeting then proceeded to the election of officers, and Mr W. Hunter was elected acting-commanding officer. Messrs A. C. Stansell and J W. Walsh secured a majority of votes for the position of first and second lieutenants, but owing to the conditions laid down in section 42 of "The Defence Act/ the attesting officer is unable to certify to their election. Mr W. Hamer .was elected secretary. . * , Votes of thanks to the chair and for the use of the hall were passed. To-day three more men were duly enrolled.
