Trooper Perreau.
"% Last night Mr Robert Perreau, who has for the past twelvemonths been representing Foxton in South Africa, and thus aiding the Empire to subdtie its enemies and add very many thousands of square miles to its territories, returned to town, invalided. There was a very large crowd at the railway station to welcoms him home, though the night was dark, and a j heavy gale was blowing aud rain came j down, " our boy " must be welcomed whatever the weather. The Mayor attended at the station and briefly told Trooper Perreau how glad the- townspeople were at his return. The Band showed a capital spirit in turning out and playing. Mr Perreau was hard at work shaking hands here, there, and everywhere, when suddenly he was hoisted shoulder high and carried to Whyte's Hotel, where his health was drunk. After that an hour or two's talk took place at Victoria Hall, and theu the day, long to be remembered by Trooper Perreau, was ended. On Thursday evening Mr Perreau is invited to a Social at the Public Hall, where the Mayor will officially welcome him, as well ° as the acting-captain of the volunteers, and the Foresters. The evening will be made as sociable as possible, and all are invited to attend.
