Social.
A large number of Foresters, foot- ' bailers, and bandsmen met together j last night at the Victoria Hall to bid good-bye to Mr F. Ward, who has been a most popular and energetic I member of all these bodies. j A very enjoyable smoke concert was • held, and the following gentlemen ! kindly sang : — Messrs A. C. Stansell, ' Westwood, Aden, Spring, Bray, Drum- j mond, Barham, Baker (2), Henderson, j Robinson, W. Howan, Burr, W. Cook, ! and Munro. I Mr Kearsley (piano), assisted by Mr ; ! T. Betty (cornet), provided the music, I and Mr Perreau provided the refresh- ! ■ ments in his usual manner. j During lhe evening the CR. on be- ; half of the Foresters, with a few ap- ' propriate remarks, presented Mr Ward with a token of their apprecation of . him as a member. Mr L. Furrie, as j representing the Foxton Football Club, and Mr Kearsley the Brass Band, also . spoke of the good qualities possessed by Mr Ward, and also made presentations from these bodies. The presentations were made with . musical honours. ! Mr Ward said, 1 am somewhat surprised to learn that )-ou had de- . cided to hold a social to bid me fare- ] well on the eve of my departure for the : West Coast, and it gives me much pleasure to meet you here to-night, although at the same time I feel sorry to leave Foxton, and those I have learnt to know and respect. I am not going to make a long speech, but as I have listened to-night to those who have spoken so kindly about me, I have to thank you for the expressions of your friendship which you have thus shown mn. not only to-night, but while I have been in Foxton. I don't know that I am deserving of all the kind things that have been said, as' I consider I have only done my duty as I strove to do as a Forester, footballer and bands- \ man. I thank you very much for the presents you have given me which I shall value very much. They will serve to remind me of the many friends I have in Foxton, and the pleasant times I spent with them. Thanks very much. ; The proceedings throughout were characterised throughout with much enthusiasm, and the gathering was brought to a close at mid-night with , singing " God Save the Queen."
