The Foresters' Ball.
The ball given by the local Lodge of Foresters last night proved to be of an enjoyable nature, and passed off with great success. The Committee had gone to a lot of trouble in decorating, etc., and their efforts were much appreciated, as the interior of the building presented quite an altered appearance. The walls were covered with fernery and evergreens, and flags jf7ere in great requisition. The floor was in perfect order, and the music supplied by Messrs J. Kearsley (piano), C. Pickering (cornet), and Bell (violin), was splendid. Some of the costumes worn were well got up, and several were well disguised. About 70 couple attended to take part in the dancing, and there was also a large number of present. Visitors were present from all around the district, j and several representatives from sister ' lodges also attended. The programme comprised the following dances : — March Waltz, Lancers, Polka, Schottische, Barn Dance, ' Waltz, Lancers, Waltz, Mazurka, D' Alberts, Barn Dance, and an extra, a waltz. The second part opened with the Lancers, then a Waltz, Berlin Polka, Mazurka, Waltz Cotillion, Quadrille, Barn Dance, Waltz, Schot- • tische, Lancers, Waltz and the last extra, a waltz. Miss Stansell and Mr J. Kearsley played the extras. Those who appeared in fancy dress were: — MesdamesA. Stansell (Empire Dress) and E. Coley (Good Luck.) Misses Brown (Spanish Dancer), M. Liddell (Yachting), E. Wright (Highland Lassie), L. Bradley (Kate Greenaway), A. Stansell (Baden-Powell), j Bowes (Red Cross Nurse), K. Ash- j more (Romp), N. King (Forget-me- j not), K. Darvill (Starlight), A. Oldham ; (Nurse), E. Guerin (Jonquils). i Messrs J. Burr (Bobs), E. Dunn j (Bushranger), A. Wright (Jockey), I O'Reilly (Soldier), A. Henderson ; (Clown), E. Ball (Clown), W. Howan ; (Corsican Fisherman), F. Wright (Man-of-War's-Man), E. Dud.son (overseer cotton plantation), B. Dunn (Captain Corcorau), J. Howan (Kruger), O. Austin (Ruination), E. Coley (Marco, the Gondolier), R. Simmons (Prince Rupert.) The character of " Kruger " was a splendid one, well sustained throughout, and was the best of the gentlemen. The ladies all looked extremely well. The catering was in the hands of Messrs Perreau Bros., and tbe supper was all that could be desired. The duties of M.C.'s was carried out by Messrs A. Stansell and W. Cook, and Messrs A. and R. Baker looked after the cash at the door. Messrs Barham arid J. Sullivan saw to the wants of those requiring liquid refreshment. The secretary (Mr Mitchell), also had plenty to do, and with the assistance of the other members of the Committee everything went with a swing. The second annual ball of the Foresters can be said to have been a great success, and much enjoyed by all.
