THE BRITISH BADLY REPULSED. Lord Roberts fears that the Elands River garrison, under Lieut.-Colonel Hoare, of the Dragoon Guards, has been captured after resisting ten days. The surmise is that Commandant Delarey, who is besieging Rustenburg, abandoned the chance of capturing Lieut.-General BadenPowell, and hurried to the Elands River, where firing ceased on Monday. General Hamilton and Lieut.General Baden-Powell left Rustenburg for E'ands River on Tuesday. Commandant de Wet crossed the Vaal River on Tuesday. Lord Kitchener is pursuing. Lord Methuen, in operating on the right bank of the Vaal River, came into contact with Commandant De Wet's vanguard on Tuesday. The Delagoa Bay correspondent of the Daily Express states that 800 Australian Bushmen participated in the engagement between Zeerust and Rustenburg, the British being badly repulsed, the casualties numbering 150. OVER FOUR THOUSAND BOERS CAPTURED. The Agent-General advises the Premier as follows : " Major-Gene-ral Hunter reports that 4140 Boers were made prisoners in the Bethlehem I and the Harrismith districts."
