+ The Transvaal. BOTHA CONSIDREING THE POSITION. General Botha, the Boer com-mander-in-Chief, has asked for confirmation of General Prinsloo's surrender to Sir Archibald Hunter. He desires to communicate with General Christian De Wet with regard to the altered position of affairs. CLOSING ROUND DE WET. The troops under Major-General Broadwood and Major-General Ridley are tightening the cordon round GfaeraX Christian De Wot and ex-
President Steyn in the hills west of Vredefort. COMPROMISING DOCUMENTS. Documents discovered at the Government Offices in Pretoria indicate that some members of the British House of Commons and other politicians had indiscreetly expressed sympathy with the Botis. DEALING WITH REBELS. The Hon. J. Rose-Innes (AttorneyGeneral in the Sprigg Government, Capetown), in moving the second reading of the Treason Bill, declared that any proposal to grant an amnesty to 9000 rebels was impossible, as Great Britain would not consent to such a thing. TREATMENT OF THE SICK. Lieutenant Clee, of the New South Wales Mounted Infantry, and Captain Thompson, of the First Australian Horse (New South Wales), gave evidence before the Hospital Commission. Both warmly eulogised the African hospitals. Mr Rudyard Kipling testified that those in charge of the hospitals in February and March welcomed private aid, and also drugs and pyjamas supplies from the " Absentminded Beggars " fund thus avoiding red-tape delays. Sir Thomas FitzGerald (who was consulting surgeon to the Victorian troops) declares, as a result of his own experience, that the charges against the] hospital management in South Africa are unfounded. MOVEMENTS OF THE CAVALRY. General French's cavalry brigade I has been pushed forward along the Delagoa Bay railway from Middleburg and its right flank now rests on the head waters of the Komati river, the railway in that district being uninjured. HUNTER'S CAPTURE. Three thousand three hundred and forty-eight Boers, with 3046 horses and three guns have now surrendered to Lieutenant-General Hunter. HAMILTON'S PROGRESS. It is officiall announced that Lieu-tenant-General lan Hamilton's forces, which are marching to the relief of Rustenburg, have ejected the enemy from the Magaliesberg Mountain, between Pretoria and the besieged town. SIEGE OF RUSTENBURG. It is now definitely stated that Lieu' tenant - General lan Hamilton's mounted intantry division, which passed through Pretoria from the eastern district two or three days ago, is advancing to assist in the relief of Rustenburg, where Lieutenant-General Baden- Powell is reported to be hard pressed. PROMISES BY KRUGER. President Kruger and General Botha have issued a proclamation stating that they will compensate burghers remaining in the field if the British ' injured their farms. ANOTHER TRAIN WRECKED. The Boers derailed and burnt a train at Honning Spruit, in Orange River Colony, though it was flying the I Stars and Stripes, the American Con-sul-General being a passenger. Forty British were captured by the Boers after the train had been derailed, but they were subsequently liberated by their captors. PORTUGUESE OFFCIALS DISMISSED. i The Portuguese Government has dismissed all the Customs and railway officials at Delagoa Bay, owing to contraband of war being allowed to pass into the Transvaal, and military officers have been appointed in their 1 places. .
