Some weeks ago the Belgian youth Sipido, who had attempted to assassinate the Prince of Wales by firing two shots at him from a revolver in Brussels railway station, was convicted by the Supreme Court of Brussels of an attempt to murder, but was released without sentence, on the ground that he was mentally irresponsible for his 3.Ct« The Right Hon. A. J. Balfour, First Lord of the Treasury, announced to the House of Commons that the British Government had intimated to the Belgian Government that it considered the result ot Sipido's trial a most unfortunate miscarriage of justice. It regretted that Sipido was not detained pending a medical decision, in view of the actual verdict of the Court. The Belgian Government had not as yet replied to this communication.
