The Transvaal.
TACTICS OF THE ENEMY. The latest news from South Africa is to the effect that the Boers are demonstrating in force along the railway line running between Johannesburg and Pretoria. The troops guarding the line have been reiniorced. SURRENDER OF FREE STATERS. All the members of ex-President Steyn's late Government have surrendered. They are pressing upon Mr Steyn the uselessness of continuing the struggle. General de Wet, who has commanded the enemy's troops in Orange River Colony during the past two or three months, has solemnly sworn that he will personally not surrender. BOER PEACE ENVOYS. M. Delcasse, the French Minister for Foreign Affairs, formally received the Boer peace delegates, who recently returned from America. The delegates were entertained at a banquet by the Paris Municipal Council. FALL OF A BOER LEADER. \ Commandant Dv Plessis, one of the leaders of the Boer fighting forces, has been killed in an engagement near Rustenburg, sixty miles west of Pretoria. BUSHMEN IN ACTION. Lieut. -General Sir Frederick Carrington, in command of the Rhodesian Field Force, cabled to the Premier of N.S. Wales on Thursday as follows : — " The New South Wales Bushmen were engaged at Rustenburg on the 7th inst. They behaved with great gallantry. I regret to report the following casualties: — Killed, Corporal Murray and Trooper Russell ; severely wounded, Corporal Leigh and Trooper Finnister ; slightly wounded, Captain McHattie." Corporal Murray is supposed to be a Victorian. Troopers Walsh and May were also wounded at Rustenburg. MISCELLANEOUS. General Snyman's eldest son has been arrested at Zeerust. One hundred and seventy of his cattle were captured. The" farms of two officials at Krugersdorp, who were convicted of damaging the telegraph lines, have been burned and all their property confiscated.
