The Handy Men.

The sailors of H.M.S. Powerful who took part in the defence of Ladysmitb had a splendid reception in London in May. They were received at the Horse Guards by the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Mr Goschen thanked them for their gallant services, and congratulated them on their fine appearance. " The defence and relief of Ladysmith " he said, " will never be forgotten in British story." The Prince said he deeply appreciated the services the Naval Brigade had rendered to the Queen and Country. The report says "after the speech came a real princely touch. The Prince took Captain Lambton by the arm and presented him to the Princess ip the carriage." The brigade were entertained at lunch at the new Admiralty offices. After this was over the brigade marched to the city through great demonstrations, opposite the Mansion House the excitement being frantic. The brigade went to Lloyds for tea and the men said it was the best entertainment they had had since they came back. ••• Lloyds are proper 1" they declared. As each man sat down he was given a small parcel wrapped in tissue paper. He held it in the palm of his hand for a moment, and joy illumined his face as he found a silver tobacco box engraved with the arms of Lloyds, and containing two ounces of fhe very best tobacco.
