The Hawke's Bay Herald says :— lf the silt question continues to beat the Harbor Board as it has done for the past year or two Napier will soon awake to the fact that it has a Harbor Board but no harbor. The dredge appears to be utterly unable to cope with any serious difficulty, for the silt makes faster than it can be removed. At the present time the barque Quathlamba is lying alongside the breastwork, and though she is only drawing 12ft of water, the vessel is stuck fast in the silt, and the dredge has been working night and day for the past two days trying to clear her, but has not yet succeeded. Surely it is possible to devise some efficient method of controlling the silt.

Mr Bridge notifies the dates his representative will visit the various townships. It will be seen that Foxton will receive a visit on Tuesday, 10th July. If the rebuff received from the bank is not taken too seriously to heart by the Council perhaps they would gracefully approach the Telegraph Department and urge the painting of the telegraph posts in the Main-street. No one wants to run his head up* against a post, and if the telegraph poles were painted white there would be less danger of doing so.
