Peace Celebrations.

The Mayor has received a long communication from the Acting-Premier as to holding some celebration when the expected proclamation of peace is announced. In every other town the Mayor has invited the public to meet him to consider what steps can be taken. The Mayor of Foxton has not thought it well to " trust the people " in this direction which we consider is a mistake, as however little they might" be able, to .advise upon the proceedings they at any rate would have the opportunity of giving expression to their views, and a preliminary canter of this character frequently secures any proceeding being carried out with the necessary enthusiasm to obtain success. To our mind there is plenty of time, but as the Mayor has been requested by the government to move in the matter, we trust he will act in the same manner as the Mayors in other towns have done, and convene an early meeting of the citizens. When peace is proclaimed it will be well worth celebrating as all will feel relieved that the terrible loss of life from sickness and the bullet has been brought to a dose, and the close interest the settlers in this colony have taken in the war will bring the blessings of peace much clearer to their understanding and must necessarily induce them to celebrate the occasion in a fitting manuer.
