This is construed to mean that an early conflict between Russia and Japan is expected. The Japanese Consul in Melbourne, says that Japan does not desire war, 'but if Russia forces her by arbitrary action, she will fight to the bitter end. Japan, he says, could in a short time pour half a million troops into Kj>rea. ■The officers of a Japaitef§' %il steamer which has arrived at'BrisbaHe, declare that the position in Korea is very strained.
