Resignation of Captain Rose.
» . •. The N.Z. Times correspondent on the Knight Templar wrifces^--I re^ gret to Have to chronicle thitfqfen after leaving Albany Captain Jonn Rose resigned. On the voyage to Albany he made himself very objectionable and ridiculous before the men of his company. This, grieved the Major greatly, but for the sake of our contingent he decided not to take action further than give a severe reprimand. Rose '■ solemnly promised not to offend again while with the contingent.' That promise he again broke at Albany, when in charge of the company on board, while the others were on leave. Fortunately there was not many visitors who saw it. The ship was just leaving, and some of the officers tried to get him below ; but he went down interfering in the stables, and the jeterinary surgeon reported the matter to the Major. Rose was taken to his cabin, where he threat-' ened to "do for " someone and commit suicide. Major Jowsey-d|enM^ it necessary to ask him to resign |us|| commission to save him ra|Hßp c arrested and tried by court-martiatat Durban. This Rose finally did, and, on the recommendation' of the doctor, *4 he was placed in a cabin, with a guard over him.
