HELP FOR THE SUFFERERS.

The British press are already urging that public subscriptions be started for the relief of the sufferers by the Ottawa fire. Subscriptions have poured in in a remarkable manner from different parts of Canada and the United States. £20,000 has been subscribed in other parts of the Dominion ; the province ' of Ottawa has donated £"5000 and banks, mercantile firms and the citizens have given £15,000. £120,000- will be required to relieve the necessitous in the city. ' The Ottawa newspapers have collected £10,000, and Lord Minto has donated £1000 to the fund. The proftered help from Great Britain, the Stock Exchange being foremost in the movement, has greatly touched the Canadian people. Many English firms • having business interests at Ottawa have cabled thousands of pounds.
