-0 A detachment of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers who were wounded at the Battle of Colenso were discharged from the Royal Military Hospital at Netley in February, and sent to Portsmouth to join the Militia battalion quartered in that garrison. The heroic little bugler Dunn was amongst them. He was the first wounded on the British side at „ Colenso, and the others were shot in **l endeavouring to swim across the S^ Tugela river during the same battle. An immense crowd at the railway #

station saw the Fusiliers arrive: Little Dunn was no sooner clear of the platform than four of the stalwart Duhlins shouldered him. The crowd greeted him with cheer after cheer. enthusiasm was kept up all the way to the Cambridge Barracks, where the battalion is quartered. Bugler Dunn's father is a sergeant in the Dublin Fusiliers, and the boy's bravery has been set forth in a letter written by Capt Gordon, who commands the company to which he Was attached. Writing to Sergt. Dunn soon after the battle Captain Gordon said: "I write to tell you how proud we are all of us of the gallant conduct of your son, No. 8,408. Drummer Dunn. He insisted on rushing on with the firing line when we tried to force the passage of the Tugela, though several tried to keep him back." While at Netley Dunn was visited by Princess Henry of Battenberg and Princess Christian. It was when he was asked by Princess Christian what the Queen could do for him that the little fellow promptly replied, "I hope Her Majesty will send me back to the front." .
