Arrival of the Toroa.
Yesterday morning the auxiliary, schooner Toroa arrived at the 'wflatf. The townspeope were pleased to welcome once again to their port the courteous master William Cozens, who formerly traded here with the schooner Whangaroa. The Toroa, is a new ship belonging to Messrs Horsley & Co of Wanganui, and was built by Messrs Lane and Brown of Whangaroa last year. She is a fine boat and was brought into port in first-class order. Her tonnage is 133 and she is supplied with an auxiliary screw worked by a 50 HP. Hercules oil engine. This has proved a great convenence and had it not been for the engine the Toroa would not have reached the wharf yesterday, as she used her screw up the river. She has two large hatches worked by three steam winches and a donkey engine and has three masts which gives her a fine spread of canvass He master speaks well of her sailing qualities. Under steam she can make six knots. It is probable she may become a regular trader here, and we hope she will as she would be an acceptable addition to the fleet of vessels trading here. Captain Cozens reports that he sailed from Westport on the lltlj, inst. encountering strong east and north-east winds and sea. Arrived off the bar on Sunday afternoon, and cvosse^ the bar on Monday morning, She brings 198 tons screened Coalbrookdale coal, consigned to the N.Z. Bailways and G. A. Gamman &Co.
