: ♦ The ordinary monthly meeting was held at the Library Buildings last night at 7.30 o'clock. Present — His Worship the Mayor (Cr Rhodes), and Crs Jenks, Austin, Aldridge, Purcell, Baker and Spelman. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Jenks, That the clerk be requested to write the Hon. J. Stevens enclosing a plan of the Manawatu River with all snap marked thereon which require
removal, and to re-apply for the grant of £200 for this purpose, and to ascertain whether the Marine Department would be willing to undertake the work of snagging. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Jenks, That tenders be called for planting the Foxton Sanatorium Reserve. Carried. . * Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded . by Cr Jenks, That a committee, consisting of Crs Baker, Austin and the Mayor, together with the clerk draw up the necessary specifications for planting the Sanatorium Reserve. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Austin, That the application of F. Gall for cost of fencing be refused. Carried. Proposed by Cr Aldridge, seconded by Cr Spelman, That the trees be lopped interfering with traffic at West end of Thynne- street and part of Park street, and that notice be given to trustees in Barn's Estate of the same. Carried. Proposed by Cr Porcell, seconded by Cr Jenks, That the Town Clerk take steps against the several persons who have failed after having notice to grub gorse on the roads ana streets of the Borough, and recover penalties under « The Public Works Act, 1894." McMillan and substitute that of Frank Gall for section No. 37 ; that of T. Easton for Martin William- . son for sections 153, 154 ; Wm. Cundy for Mrs E. E. Fenwick for section 196; J. C. Nathan for Cornelius Sullivan for sections 485, 6, 8, 9, 500 and 501 ; J. C. Nathan for Alexander Speirs for section xoi; J. W. Liddle for F. E. Jenks for Part A, allotment 7, Block IV; J. ftillary for Messrs King and Baker for section 125, 126. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Purcell, That this Council take no further action with reference to slaugh-ter-house licenses and inspection fees collected prior to January Ist last. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by the Mayor, That the by-law re vehicles carrying lights at night be eaforced. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Austin, That the clerk be instructed to again write to the Chief Veterinarian - informing him that tfifc Council desire the complete inspection of the dairy cows within the Borough, also to know the names of the owners of dirty dairies in the Borough complained of by MrWilkie. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the application of Mr J. Spelman to erect a verandah in Main-street be granted in compliance with Borough by-law. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by ""' Cr Austin, That notice be given to the ranger that he must attend to bis duty better, or this Council will not require,, his services after the ensuing month* . cattle and»horses being at large in numbers during all parts of; day and night. Not carried. > The accounts were passed for payment, and the Engineer's report was ' also read. Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Austin, That the engineer be instructed to have the windmill on the Avenue boarded in with 12 xi white pine.
