The Last Contingent.
Owing to many applications having been made to the Mayor about the last contingent he wired to head quarters and has received the following reply from Lieut.-Colonel Newall: — Re your wire to the Commandant I regret that your applicants are too late, over five hundred applications received and only one hundred and fifty wanted. Long list appeared in Evening Post of sixth inst, Times of seventh.
