-, The ordinary monthly meeting was lasi night at 7.30 o'clock.
Present— His Worship the Mayor (Cr W. B. Rhodes), and Cr C. T. Austin, W. Purcell, H. Aldridge and S. Baker.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Austin, That the Council tenders to Cr Spelman its sincere sympathy in his affliction, and hopes he may soon resume his place at the Council table. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Austin, That the application of Mr F. S. Easton for a shaughter-house license be granted. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Austin, That the clerk be instructed to have a galvanised iron well sunk in Victoria Park before the winter sets in. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Austin seconded by Cr Baker, That a window be placed at the gable end .of the reading room » so as to light the general public readroom ; and that Mr Jenks' kind offer to write public reading room on the window be accepted. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Austin, That Messrs Richmond and Martin be paid the sum of £i is for advice on June sth 1899, to Council. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Austin, That the engineer's report be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded by Cr Baker, That the estimate of receipts and expenditure as read for the year ending 1901 be adopted. Carried. Proposed by Cr Aldridge, seconded by Cr Baker, That the supplementary Valuation List be publicly notified as open for inspection, and the Judge of Assessment Court be written to andjo requested to arrange for an Assessment Court for the purpose of hearing and determining all objections to the said list. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Aldridge, That the accounts as read be passed for payment. Carried. Proposed by Cr Purcell. seconded by Cr Baker, That the crossing at Mrs - White's corner be made the full width of the foothpath. Carried. Proposed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Aldridge, that a special meeting be called for Monday evening 19th inst. to consider sanitary matters of the Borough, and for receiving tenders for y^ carting. Carried.
