BOMBARDMENT OF MAFEKING.

The latest advices with reference to the situation in Mafeking, British Bechuanaland, on the western boundary of the Transvaal, is contained in a message received by way of Pretoria.

It appears that the town is now besieged by a force of Boers under- Com* mandant Croje. The assilants are reported to be bombarding the town, and to have cut off the water supply in the endeavour to starve the inhabitants into submission.
