NOMINATIONS.
Yesterday, at noon, was the time fixed by the Returning Officer to receive nominations for candidates to fill the seat vacated by Mr Thomas Westwood. Four nominations were delivered, but that of Mr Spelman's was unfortunately declared informal, owing to one of the nominators having been accidentally omitted from the Burgess Roll by the Town Clark. The Returning Officer informed those present that he had the day before informed the nominator that his name had been omitted and that he could not nominate anyone. It appears that this was not understood and no action was taken to provide a substitute. The first three names are the candidates whose papers are in order:— Henry Aldridge, nominated by G. Gray and H. Austin ; A. C. Stansell, nominated byW. B. Rhodes and G. Gray; W. Woollass, nominated by M. Walker and A. R. Osborne. The election is fixed to take place on Wednesday, 27th September.
