Foxton Cricket Club.
* The annual general meeting of the Foxton Cricket Club was held on Tuesday evening in the Good Templar Hall, Mr W. S. Stewart in the chair. The attendance was fairly large and representative, and a very good spirit pervaded the meeting. After consideration of the report and balance sheet, which were adopted as read, the following officers were elected for the coming season :— President, Walter Robinson, Esq.; Vice-Presi-dents, Captain Dunk, J.P. (Bainesse), Alf. Fraser, Esq. (Mayor), and W. Hunter, Esq.; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr W. S. Stewart ; Committee, Messrs Betty, L. Furrie, Martin. Alf. Morgan, Spring, Stiles, and Wanklyn ; Captain, Mr G. Stiles ; Vice-Captain, Mr Wanklyn. The appointment of Practice-Captain was left in the hands of the Committee. Quite a number of new members were proposed for election, and the prospects of a merry season are distinctly bright. The great drawback in past years has been the want of a good " pitch." The new pitch in Victoria Park, from which much was expected last season, proved so rotten and dangerous that practise on it was too much of a risk to life and limb for even the most enthusiastic. The new iron roller, however, and a capable working committee of management will make the Victoria Park ground certainly one of the best in the district this year. The trophies for the best Batting and Bowling averages of the season were won by G. Stiles and E. Ingram respectively. Similar trophies have been offered for the coming season. The opening match is to be played on the third Wednesday in September, between teams to be chosen by the Captain and Vice-Captain. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the outgoing officers, and the meeting closed with the usual courtesies to the chair.
