Foxton Lawn Tennis Club.

The annual meeting of this Club was i held on Tuesday evening In the Masonic Hall, Mr W. Hamer in the chair. , The attendance was comparatively small, but fairly representative. The report and balance sheet were adopted as read, the balance sheet showing a small credit balance, which was regarded by most of the members as something incredible, considering that the new pavilion had been constructed out of ordinary revenue. Although the interests of the Club have been greatly affected by the removal from the district of several of its prominent gentlemen players, several new arrivals have signified their intention of becoming members, and the prospects of the coming season may fairly be considered good. The election of officers was then proceeded with, and the following were duly elected :— President, Walter Robinson, Esq. ; vice-presidents, Messrs E. S. Thynne and W. S. Stewart ; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. S. Stewart ; committee, Messrs Cook, Austin, Hamer, Furrie and Stiles. The secretary was instructed to arrange matches— to be played before Christmas, if possible— with the Tennis Clubs of Otaki, Levin, Bulls, Rangitikei and Waitohi. . . The opening match of the season is to be played 'on the second Wednesday of September. Votes of thanks were patted to the outgoing committee, to the lady members for their courtesy in providing afternoon tea on the court during the • season, and to the chair. The meeting then terminated.
