NARROW ESCAPE FROM BURNING.
About five o'clock on Saturday evening a little girl of Mr and Mrs Walls, named Vida* eight years^ of 'age, was burnt. We are informed that the child must have opened the_doorof the stove and the flames caught her pinafore, which quickly Ignited other portions of her dress. She rushed out into the shop crying out, and Mrs Walls received a severe shock seeing her child in flames, Fortunately Mr Faulkner was just by the shop and heard the screams and ran in, and with presence ot mind conjoined with good sense, whipped his coat off and wrapped the child in it, thus smothering the fire. Though one side of the child's clothing was completely burnt away, most curioussly the chiid escaped with just a slight burn on one arm.
