The Magician again To-night.

Herr Paulus, who came here with flattering credentials, appeared last night and fully bore out his reputation as a conjurer and illusionist. Amongst the feats performed which met with general approbation was one involving the materialisation of flowers from seeds and earth, and the smart piece of work of restoring a broken plate^ to a complete whole one. The box trick more than astonished the two gentlemen who went on the stage to supervise on behalf of the audience — Messrs Fraser and Rhodes. A man was placed in a strong box with his hands tied and then the box was locked. In about a couple of minutes the man entered by the front door atvf walked up the hall, still with his hands bound; Messrs Fraser and Rhodes were then invited to open the box, which they did, expecting to find it empty, but 'there happened to be> a lady in the case. ' '•• '■ '■■ '■■:."?'*..■■.■ Mr St. Clair rendered the -song, ■" The Whistling Coon," and responded to the encore with a whistling solo played on two whistles. During the evening the same performer gave selections on the banjo and mouth organ. Mdlle. Maudina, who possesses a very sweet and sympathetic voice, sang™. " Ben Bolt,'*, and ; the ballad from the Gaiety -Girl, entitled " Sunshine Above." 1 Herr Paulus will give another entertainment this evening when an entire change of programme" 'will be given, and also new illusions, aWp^bft introduced, viz.! « Brought Ao =Ofe," "Titania," the animated hat. and the sensational dramatic illusion-entitled "The Shadow of the Cross,"- which could not be staged last night owing to the lateness of the hour the company „ arrived. We recommend all who have not seen the Professor to* take this opportunity which will be the last chance, " "
