Obituary.
THE LATE MRS H. SYMONS. The ranks of the pioneers of thia I district are fast being thinned by death. To-day it is our painful duty to record the death of Mrs Henry Symons, the relict of the late Henry Symons, who had some years ago a run at Atiki, on the Manawatu river. ; The late Mrs Symons was well advanced in years, her age being stated at 83. She was a Kentish lass, and married at Home Mr Barnett, and with him arrived in Wellington by the ship Clifton in the year 1842. They resided at Paiaka and witnessed all the troublous times during the first Native war. The children by this marriage are Mrs George Trask and Messrs William and Thomas Barnett, who are all living. After the death of t her first husband she married Dr Best who resided near the mouth of the river, but this alliance was not for long, death claiming the doctor within three years of the wedding. Mr Henry Symons, whom the deceased afterwards married, was a very popular and hospitable settler and their married life was a quiet and hapoy one. For many years they resided in 1 a house, since removed, on the road to the Wharangi, and afterwards at Atiki, and their house was always a popular place with all the young people of the district. The issue of this marriage were three daughters, Mesdames W. K. Simpson, D. A. Poole, and W. Alzdorf^-who have all families of their own. Though the deceased lady was so advanced in years, she was well up to about five weeks of her death and was conscious to the last. She leaves besides the children mentioned, 43 grandchildren and many great grand* childrea. Her death took place at her daughter's, Mrs W. K. Simpson's, residence at the Oroua Bridge on Sunday morning at 1.30, passing peacefully away. The funeral has been fixed to leave Mr W. Alzdorf s residence, Norbiton road, to-morrow at 2.30 p.m. for the cemetery. To the relations of the deceased we desire to tender our respectful sympathy.
