Attack on Maitre Labori.
Particulars on the afack of M. Libori at Bonnes stated that the learned gent.lemin was walking to the Court wb^n a ragged miscrean leaped from behind a wall and fir d at him. The bullet entered hi* back, ami lodging in the posterior region of the thorax. The would-be assassin then made off shouting. " I have killed Dreyfus." A sentry and the gendarmes stationed about the Court pursued the man. M. Demarige, who is associated ! with M. Labori in the defence of D eyfu3, has announced that M. L ibori's wound is not serious. M. Libori i 3in a weak and feverish condition. It is believed that the attack upon him was part of a plot designed with the object of stealing docu menfcs which were in possession of Dreyfus's counsel. The assailant stole from M. Libori's pocket a letter containing threats against him. The police, prior to tha attempt on M. Libori, were warned that General Mercier's ljfe was threatened and ware thus put on a wrong scent, enabling the assailant to escape. The Cabinat was hastily summoned after the atterap f , and deviser] special measures for safety. All the newspapers reprobate tho ciime but indulge in recriminitions. The nationalist organs attack th ■ Government for its recent arbitrary methods. The " D^bats " and soma other journals express an appi\hen?ion of civil war. The " Temp 3 " cays that perhaps
the outrage will be the one thing needed to restore Frenchmen to their senses. The Dreyfusities conside that the use of the revolver is synonymous, with a lost cause. It is reported that prior to the atfpropt on M. L^bori, officials at Ft nneß declared that the League of Pitriota was preparing for a Dnyfusard massacre of St Bartholomew. Tbe Paris correspondent of the " Tim^s," regards the disabling of M. Labori a national calamity, and says that M. DemangtJ's crossexamination of a military witness at the Rennes coartmartiai Wai pitifully weak.
