THE RANGER.
TO THE EDITOB OF THE MAKAWATO HERALD. Sir, — I would like to draw the attention of the Borough Council to the manner in which the ranging of the roads is carried— or really not carried — out. It is manifest to every one who travels the roads that horses and cattle wander where they will withqfr let or hindrance, a fact the pounakeepeV has already .Mtififfi attention to. The damage to the roads done by wandering cattle' is so well-known that it was stated in the Council that it was hardly worth while to clean out the drains whilst cattle roamed at will. Besides the damage done to the roads, the flaxmillers suffer considerable loss by the way cattle drag the fibre off the fences put there to dry. As all are ratepayers it seems absurd that no protection is afforded them by the Council, who should call upon the Ranger to carry out his duties properly or to resign. I am, &c., Ratepayer.
