Quaint Marriage Announcements.
A Cockermouth (Cumberland) clergyman has found the following quaint marriage announcements in the Monthly Magazine for 1797: — At Edgbaston Church, after a courtship of three weeks, Mr D. Dykin, aged sixty-six, to Miss Pickford, of Whiffnal, aged sixteen. This is the tourth wife he has led to the altar of Hymen within the last four years. Stephen Chetham, of Leeds, aged twenty-two, to Faith Stephenson, of the Old Duke public-house, in Great Woodhouse, aged seventy-one. This tender pullet danced a hornpipe on the evening of her wedding-day. At Pilminster, John Hendon, aged seventy, who has walked upon crutches for several years, and has only one eye, to Sarah Govier, aged thirty-three, who also has one eye and is dumb. At Morresby, Mr Clementson jun. t almost eighteen, to Miss Waddingtbn; of Par ton, turned fifteen. At Newcastle-under-Lyne, Mr Hay wood, aged seventy, to Mrs Bennet, aged seventyfive. This is the fourth time that this blest couple have offered their mutual vows at the altar of Hymen.
