The Downfall of Spain.
Queen-Rpgent Maria Christina, in addressing the Spanish Cortes, states that it was now considered inexpedient to retain the remaining colonies belonging to the kingdom. Tbe Qaeen proceeded to say that Spain had offered to cede to Germany the Caroline Islands, the Pelew Islands, and the greater part of the Ladrone Group. Spain is retaining a coaling station in each of the groups of island ceded to Germany. The latter is to pay 26.000,000 pesetas (£1,040,000) indemnify, and also undertakes to defend Bpain'*. coaling station.
