♦ The disclosures made by the newspaper " Figaro " in publishing the evidence given in the Dreyfus case before the Court of Cassation has bad considerable influence upon public opinion. Several of the papers that have hitherto expressed the views of the Nationalist Party, which is strongly opposed lo the revision of Captain Dreyfus's sentence now declare that they will accept whatever verdict is arrived by the Court of Cassation. A letter has been published by a sergeant of sharpshooters in reference to Major Marchand's treatment of the natives whom he dealt with on his expedition from the French Congo district to Fashoda, from which place he has just withdrawn to the coast of the Gulf of Aden. The writer states that on the march towards the Nile certain native porters ran ajvay from the party, and when they were overtaken by Marchand's man he caused some of them to be shot and others io bp hanged. Further, it is alleged that Marehand made women act as baggage carriers.
