The Transvaal.
The correspondence which hns passed between the Colonial Office and the Government of the South Republic in reference to the dynamite monopoly, which inflicts heavy burdens upon the English mining companies at Johannesburg, has been published.
In on a of the despatches, the Bight Hon. Mr Chamberlain Secretary of State for the Colonies, t.tatdd that the monopoly did not benefit the Transvaal State, but only the persons who hold the concession. It was also a breach of the 1881 Convention between the Republic and Great Britain,
Mr F. W. Reitz, the Transvaal Secretary of State, in reply, asserted that the Transvaal has the exclusive right to fix the conditions for the manufacture of dynamite and that Britain was not justified in pro. te?ting.
It is alleged that 9000 outlandera in the Transvaal have signed a petition expressing their confidence in the Boers.
The "Debats "journal, in dealing with the tarn of affiirs in the Transvaal condemns President Kruger's strange obstinacy, and con. sidera that Britain's intervention under the circumstances would not ba surprising.
