War in the Philippines
- S'veve fighting baa taken place round about Manila. The Americans made a general ! advance, bub were met with a -itutibjn resistance from the Filipinos. The entire northern line-) of the American infantry, with great intrepidity, carried the trenches at the point of the bayonet. The Americana oap'ured the { n-tified towns ; f Ba;tinta?ig, BaesH, Eububam, t> the norfh-^asfc of Caolacan, and drove the Filipinos to Navaliche*, where the American advance was checked. Stvere fighting took place in the v'oini r y <>f Malabon. The Filipino * f.arlessly left the ranches and fiercely charged the Oregon regimen", killing eight and wounding twenty-three. Whtn it had been reinforced, tbe Oi-egon regiment drove the rebels into Malabo. Tho American cruiser Monadnock assisted by gunboats, shelled tbe town. Brisk fighting also occurred on tbe banks of the Tuliaha river where the Americans carried the entrenchment^ and the Filipinos retired to Malinta. The Americans lost altogether sixteen killed and 130 wounded. The Eilipiao losse3 are estimated to total 400.
