Two hundred and fifty deserters declare that the Khalifa is io a desperate strait for food. He ha_ an enormous following of women and children.
The deserters also report thit he has 6000 troop3 armed with 1000 rifles.
The Frencb Government is pleased with its bargain in obtaining the hinterland of Tripoli, and the central caravan roures which intercept direct communication with the Sokoto and the Nile.
