SIR JULIUS YOGEL.
The death is announced of Si Julius Yogel. Sir Julius died suddenly 4 Sir Julius Yogel, K.^.M.G., who wa born in London on February 24th 1835, was the son of Albert Leopol< Yogel, of London, and Phoebe, hi wife, eldest daughter of Alexande Isaac, Esq., of Hatcham Grove, Surre; and Wolsingham Park, Durham. A the age of sixteen Mr Yogel went int mercantile pursuits, but migrated t Victoria after the discovery of th goldfield in 1852, He was there con cerned in various business concerns and subsequently entered journalisr as rewspaper proprietor and editoi r\ After an uusuccessful attempt to ente the Victorian Parliament, he pvc ceeded to Dunedin, New Zealanc where he purchase a share in th Otago Witrwss, and started the Otag
-5 Daily Times, both of which papers he 3 edited for several years. In iß6p he entered the Provincial Council of Otago, and four years later became head of the Provincial Government, 3 which position he held till 1869. Before 1 he was thirty years of age he had a large experience of public affairs — - having been elected to the New a Zealand House of Representatives in B 1863. He held office in several ' Ministries. He was Agent-General for five years, and after returning to ? the colony formed the Stout- Vogei 1 Ministry. When defeated by Sir , Harry Atkinson in 1887, Sir Julius B returned to England.
