MANAWATU AUTUMN MEETING.
The first day's races of the autumn meeting of the above Club took place yesterday on the Palmerston racecourse. The selections contributed by the different bands were greatly appreciated and added considerably to the attraction of the meeting. The sky was cloudy and a strong wind was blowing. There was a good deal of speculation in the hack events. Following are the results : — Flying Handicap, of 60 soys; 6 furlongs. — 122 Oingo, ?st gib, 1; 42 Osborne, 7st, 2 ; 53 Aquatic, 7st i2lb, 3. Also started— llß Titoki Bst nib, 65 Armoureux Bst 6lb. Time, imin igsec. Dividend, £2 19s. Handicap Hurdles, of 70 soys, 2 miles. — 216 Pokomoko, gst 2lb, 1; 119 Voltaire, gst 71b, 2 ; 161 Hangfire, gst gib, 3. Also ran— 7o Sabreur i2st nib, 81 Fireworks iost 6lb, 87 Barbarossa ibst 51b, 16 Kauri Gum iost, 39 En Avant gst 31b. Sabreur fell at the second hunlle. At the back of the course Pokomoko took the lead, and although pushed by Voltaire in the straight, won by a length. Time, 3min 56sec. Dividend, £3 53. M.R.C. Handicap, of 200 soys, 2$ miles.— l 26 Rubin, 7st i2lb, l; 397 Bush Rose, gst, 2 ; 154 Uonneraile, 6st xolb, 3. Also started— Bß Castashore gst 71b, 97 Marina 7st. Won easily by two lengths, a good third. Time r amin 41 3-5 sec. Dividend, £3 Bs. First Handicap Hack Hurdles, of 40 soys ; x-J miles.— Splinter, iost 131 b, 1 ; Shylock, iost iolb, 2 ; Whangaroa, list 7ib, 3. Won easily. Time, 3mm 24 i-ssec. Dividend, £2 8. Hack Flat, about one mile and a distance.— Marvellous, Bst 41b, 1 ; The Masher, 78t sib, 2 ; Southerly Buster, Bst 41b, 3. Also started— Rata Bst gib, Stockade Bst sib, RoJara 7st Blb, an.l Pastime 7st j\b. Won comfortably. Time, 2min. Dividend, £3 15s. Borough Handicap, one mile and a distance.— The Miller, 7St iolb, 1 ; Jadoo, 6st iolb, 2 ; Primula, Bst i2lb, 3. Also started— Tortulla Bst 2lb, First Blood 7st ?lb, Surrey 7st 2lb, Daphne 6st iolb. Won by a neck. Time, 2min 4-ssec. Dividend, £7 7s Electric Handicap, five furlongs. — Aquatic, Bst 4lb, 1; The Onyx, 7st iolb, 2 ; Fleka, 7st 3. Won by three lengths. Time, imin 7 3 ssec. Dividend, £2 us.
