MANAWATU AUTUMN MEETING.

The first day's races of the autumn meeting of the above Club took place yesterday on the Palmerston racecourse. The selections contributed by the different bands were greatly appreciated and added considerably to the attraction of the meeting. The sky was cloudy and a strong wind was blowing. There was a good deal of speculation in the hack events. Following are the results : — Flying Handicap, of 60 soys; 6 furlongs. — 122 Oingo, ?st gib, 1; 42 Osborne, 7st, 2 ; 53 Aquatic, 7st i2lb, 3. Also started— llß Titoki Bst nib, 65 Armoureux Bst 6lb. Time, imin igsec. Dividend, £2 19s. Handicap Hurdles, of 70 soys, 2 miles. — 216 Pokomoko, gst 2lb, 1; 119 Voltaire, gst 71b, 2 ; 161 Hangfire, gst gib, 3. Also ran— 7o Sabreur i2st nib, 81 Fireworks iost 6lb, 87 Barbarossa ibst 51b, 16 Kauri Gum iost, 39 En Avant gst 31b. Sabreur fell at the second hunlle. At the back of the course Pokomoko took the lead, and although pushed by Voltaire in the straight, won by a length. Time, 3min 56sec. Dividend, £3 53. M.R.C.
