The Radical and the Socialistic newspapers in Paris support M. Loubfet. In the Congress, the Republicans greeted the announcement of M. Loubet's election with "cheers. la returning thanks, M. Loubet declared he would always be a Republican and would promote the pacification and good credit of the Empire. He hoped to establish friendly relations with Parliament.

The street demonstrations reported yesterday were the outcome of preconcerted rowdyism. Of 46 persous injured in the rioting 14 were policemen. Over 150 arrests were made.

M. Dapuy, Premier, has consented to retain office if the Dreyfus revision policy of the Government is to be unaltered.

Continental newspapers generally are favourable to M. Loubefc's election, but the St. Petersburg papara assuma a cool tone. In France the new President is re girded as an honed and well-mean-ing man, hut rather weak.
