Senator McEaery's resolutions dealing with the control of the trade and the government of the Philippines, were carried in the Senate by 26 to 22. Before they were carried, Senator Hoar denounced them as infamou3, and said the impositions weru designed to favour Louisiana sugar planters. Only a heart of stone, ho said, would fail to recognise Aguin aide's remarkable appeal for the independence of the islands. The German Government has officially denied the rumoured sale of German arms to the Filipinos.
