Librarian's Report.

To His Worship the Mayor, Sir,— During my holiday I obtained promises of free newspapers from the following offices : — " Daily News " and " Budget," New Plymouth f " Record," Inglewood ; " Egmont Settler," Stratford ; and from two. other offices. I applied for the " New Zealand Times" but was refused. "The four papers first named have been regularly sent, and I beg to suggest that the thanks of the Council be ordered to be sent. I would also suggest that application be made for Carterton, Masterton, Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin papers. With reference to the matter of smoking in the Reading Room I wish an authoritative expression of opinion, as I find some persons seem to feet aggrieved when told that no smoking is allowed. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your obedient servant, R. Chapman, . , _ " Librarian, Foxton, Feb. 6th, 1899.
