Treasurer's Report.

To His Worship the Mayor, Sir,-— I would call attention of the Council to the need of some action in order that the outstanding rates owing by 62 persons, and*, amounting to £37 6s sd, should bcpaid before the expiry tion of the current year ending on March 31st next. It is eight month? since the rate demands were Issued, and considering the state of the Borough finances, it is high time that the rates and license fees should be paid. One hall license and three cart li«u censes have been taken out, and only four rates paid since January 9th last. There is a triangular .piece of land of about half an acre area on No. t Line at the point where the Council bought a piece of land of equal area for the purpose of straightening the road. This land is of no use, nor is it at all likely that it ever will twipjL any use to the Borough. I beg-to sugfT gest that it be offered to the adjoining owner at a fair price. Cr Purcell called on 21st January 1 desiring to pay his rent. On the pre~ 1 vious day the work of fencing had been j completed. As Mr Purcell understood when he tendered that possession would be given on October Ist, he claims an j abatement of rent, and some allowance in addition for the time he has been kept out of the land.
