School Committee.

1 1 The Rev. W. Woollass has been nominated by the local committee for a seat on the Education Board at the next animal election. Tht committee has made a good selection, we hope the other committees J^will give him their support, as he baa proved himself a capable anri energetic Minister, and the Boarc appears to require man with enprg) upon it. There is no fear that, he is seeking the position to furthei demoninational views, as the addres*

he is issuing to the committees makes very clear, and as a pernsal will prove. Fol'owing is his address : — " Gentlemen, — Having been requested to allow myself to be nominated for election to the Education Board, I have consented, and in doing so would reppectfully solicit your support. Having been a member of the Invercargill Licensing Committee for three years, I am not a stranger to the workings of local bodies. I should like to point out that I am strongly opposed to any alteration j in the present system of education, and especially against anything that would favour denominationalism. It would, however, be wi9e in my opinion to have a central system of inspection for the schools, with one Inspector-General, and if possible, bring into harmony the diffierent standards of teaching throughout the various districts in the colony, and there should be, I think, one eet of pchool books in use throughout the whole colony. If elected, I shall endeavour to do my duty impartially, and to the best of my ability."
