Subsequent to the reprie^Bjniji -«} the condemned man and the subsißfttion of imprisonment for life instead i^'*! the death penalty, complaints were :| made that Mr Justice Phillimorc, before' ■' : whom Warke was tried, displayed bias ' ' against the prisoner. A petition was > presented to the Queen bearing 20,000 ! signatures, asking for the prisoner's : release. The whole matter has since been : considered by the authorities, the . result being that the sentence has been further reduced to one of three years' imprisonment.
