At the above Court before Messrfj F. Pirani and J. R. McMillan, IM^\ P. William Henry Cootea and Franks Cootes were charged with brpakinp a window and door, of tbe valuo cf & 4 <
10a at the Railway Hotel. The same accused were also charged with using obscene language. After hearing a considerable amount of evidence, the bench sentenced the latter to a month's imprisonment, and the former was fined £6 and orderod to pay the amount of the damage, or one month's imprisonment at Wanganui. While the prisoners were being taken to the Police Station William fienry Cootes kicked a setter dog, which was lying on the footpath in front of the Occidental Hotel, and he was accordingly brought back to the Court and charged with cruelly iiltreating the animal. Evidence was given by Constable Minogue and Sergeant Wilson, after which the bench severely reprimanded the accused, and dismissed the case. — Standat d
