A Sudden Elevation.

0 - A sotnewhat wonderful change, says the Waikato correspondent of the "New Zealand Herald," has taken place on Mr Thomas Eeid's farm at Maioro. Whilst the gentleman was riding round his estate last Monday week, he noticed a portion of one of his swamps had been raised between 20ft and 80ft. At Mr Reid's request, 1 paid a visit to the place and found that apparently some hundreds, possibly some thousands of tons of sand had shifted, geting under the swamp, and causing an upheaval. The portion of the swamp raised was very wet, and had a number of drains running through it. One of the drains is now on a hill, having been raised about 25ft. Mr Reid is unable to say if the upheaval has taken place since the last earthquake, but did not notice it till Monday, 14th November. The raised part is much' broken on top, Bhowing large chasm?. The fence was also shifted for several yards.
