Foxton Borough Council.

♦ The ordinary monthly meeting was held at the Library Buildings last night at 7.30 o'clock. Present — His Worship the Mayor (Cr. J. R. Stangell), and Crs. P. Hennessy, W. B. Rhodes, A. Fraser, A. S. Easton, and W. Purcell. Cr Westwood »ent an apojogy for non-attendance. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A large amount of inward and out» ward correspondence was read. Proposed by Cr Fraser, seconded by Cr Easton, That the request of the Sports Committee of Palmerston N. for use of reserve for sports on New Year's Day be acceded to at the usual charge of 10 per cent, on the gross takings at the gates. Carried. Proposed by Cr Hennessy, seconded by Cr Purcell, That Mr Bradcock's request for return of deposit be complied with. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Hennessy, That the action of the Committee in engaging Mr Ray to

prosecute in the case Foxton Borough Council v. Marton Borough Council be approved. Carried. Cr Purcell made an objection to the manner in which the fencing on Reserve No. 477 was being carried out, and said that a great number of the stabs used were not the size as required by the specifications, whilst many hadf split where the staples had been put in. He understood the work was to be~*l-» completed by the xst October, and he thought it was only delaying the completion of the work by waiting for fencing posts to arrive from Hawke's Bay, when probably they can be secured sooner elsewhere* Cr Rhodes said he had visited the reserve and found that many stabs had split as complained of by Mr Purc«U, After hearing Mr S. Howan in^Hi^ planation of the manner the work Is being carried out, it was decided that the Overseer of Works should make a report to the Reserves Committee. The following resolution was also put to the meeting : — % Proposed by Cr Fraser, seconded by Cr Easton, That the clerk write to the Hawke's Bay Timber Co. if .posts are not delivered within seven days order will be cancelled, and that the clerk bfi instructed to order them elsewhere? Carried.
