London. Colonel J E. Goarand, who acted as aide-de-camp to General Sherman in the American Civil War md several times distinguished nimsel! by aW<fc of daring, hue subscribed £1000, and Mr W. Astor £5000 to the land for the establishment of a Gordon Memorial College at Khartoum. Lord Kitchener attended a meeting at the Mansion House, and tlso visited the Stock Exchange. At bath places he was accorded ovations *nd large subscriptions to the fund were promised.
