Li Hung Chang, who was recently restored to power, has been sent to Shangtung in connection with a scheme for preventing inundatio3 of the Yellow river.
This appointment is equivalent to shelving him
The Dowager-Empress of China has refused a request made by Li Hung Chang that he should not be sent to the province of Shantung, whither he has been ordered on a missioa in connection with a scheme for preventing the inundations from the Yellow river, whiah is considered equivalent to shelving him.
The Dowager has granted an Anglo German syndicate a contract for the construction of a railway from Tientsin to Qnin-Kiang.
